Do you know how to handle the Final Paycheck of an employee who has not shown up to their shift?

When an individual you employ does not come in to work, it is STILL YOUR RESPONSIBILITY as the business owner to ensure you attempt to communicate with him/her regarding his/her last paycheck.

Document any attempts of communication with the "No-Show" employee for your records!

Another step you can take to further your efforts is to include a Certified Send Receipt with the final paycheck and mail both to the address you have on file for that employee. Even if he/she is no longer at that address or if it the address was false, at least you can show your efforts to get paycheck to the former employee.

DO NOT HANG ON TO THE PAYCHECK WAITING FOR YOUR NEXT PAY PERIOD AND DO NOT JUST WAIT FOR THE EMPLOYEE TO COME PICK IT UP!

In the state of California, you have 72 hours to pay an employee after they leave your business, however, our attorney clients recommend that you do not wait - it's best to pay right away!

If you do not hear from them and your efforts to communicate with them are fruitless, then just send the paycheck to the last address you have on file for that individual.
